The Rangers’ win at Parkheadover longstanding competitive Celtic have put them up as the new favourites for the Scottish Premier League. The final score for the first Old Firm derby of the season was 4-2 Rangers. Kenny Miller, formally a frontman for the Hoops, scored a double, with Pedro Mendes and Daniel Cousin also performing well to represent Walter Smith’s top players. Georgios Samaras had annulled Cousin’s score to tie the teams up by the end of the first period, but Miller grabbed the reins to score twice against a team he used to play for: the role reversal put the Rangers back on top. With Mendes’ consistant volleys to Miller, the team was soon up 4-1. Shunsuke Nakamura made an effort for Celtic- to no avail.
Both teams saw the end of the competition with 10 men on the field, after celtic sub of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, and red cards for Cousin. The switchup has forced Boylesports to drop Celtic to even money to take the championship, while Rangers are up 8/11 as market leaders. Previous odds to the game had Celtic at 4/6 while Rangers were 11/10 to take the title. For the game itself, the Rangers were quoted at 3/1 to win, which they did. And punters who took the 125/1 odds of the score coming out 4-2 in the underdogs’ favor are happy indeed with the game’s result.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been given the high honor of the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year prize. The award was presented at an excellent ceremony in Monaco. The 23 year old Ronaldo was the prominent player in Manchester United’s charge to the UEFA Champions League crown last term. Ronaldo was also selected as the best forward. He scored 42 goals in all competitions last season and is the second Portuguese international player to have the honor bestowed upon him after Deco in 2004. Chelsea players Petr Cech was nominated for Best Goalkeeper, John Terry was nominated for Best Defender and Frank Lampard was nominated as Best Midfielder respectively.
