Football4Profit: News- Football

The English Premier League had a consistent week with victories for Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal as Newcastle was put up for sale.

It had been seven years since the last time that Liverpool hosted Manchester United and managed to come out the winners as a result. The great win came this weekend with a final score of 2-1, and with the strong assistance of Ryan Babel, who joined in on the game after having been benched for an ankle injury. His late score in the game turned the evident draw into a solid win for Liverpool. The triumph puts the club at 10 points for 4 games, and are tied with Chelsea for points. Chelsea also took their game against Manchester City with a score of 3-1. They were able to hold a solid defence despite the City’s addition of Robinho giving them a goal on the board just 13 minutes in. Chelsea’s striker Didier Drogba suffered a knee injury during the last 20 minutes of the game. Arsenal also walked away champions from their game at Blackburn Rovers. Emmanuel Adebayor played a significant part in the win, with his impressive hat-trick. Arsenal trails Chelsea and Liverpool at nine points and still hold third place. Portsmouth scored 2 goals to Middlesbrough’s one to Jermain Defoe’s credit on both counts. The Bolton Wanderers lost to Fulham by a goal (score 2-1.) Gianfranco Zola’s newly acquired team West Ham did not live up to their manager’s expectations as they lost the reins to newbies West Bromwich Albion.

But the biggest change in the league over the last couple of days comes from the drama originating around Newcastle. After coach Kevin Keegan’s resignation, fans went crazy in protest: both before, during and after the team’s game against Hull City (which ended in defeat for Newcastle 2-1 at home). The reactions from crowds and media alike have forced Mike Ashley as owner place the Premier League club on the market for sale. Evidently, the explanations of the team’s management and Keegan’s leaving were not sufficient for the fans. Ashley had said that if an appropriate purchaser can not be found in a reasonable amount of time, he will continue to run the club until a sale can be arranged; stating he intends to run the club on a “sustainable” business model. Ashley had bought Newcastle in July of 2007.
