American Football 9/8/08

The game on Sunday between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots left two quarterbacks injured- one for each side. Tom Brady, it seems, is not invincible, as he was led off the field between two medical trainers on Sunday’s game against Kansas City. The matchup left the Patriots without their leader, the quarterback who led the team to a 16-0 regular season last year, and through their 4th Superbowl in 8 years. He was on the left leg while been taken down in the pocket by the Chiefs’ safety: Bernard Pollard. Brady had started for 128 games straight, but left the field gripping his left knee and limping. Additional details are not available at this time; the severity of the injury is not known. Matt Cassel replaced Brady.
The same game also rendered one of the Chiefs to the injured list: Brodie Croyle was reported to have suffered a bruised right shoulder. Previous to the sustained hurt, Croyle was 11 for 19 for 88 yards. Adalius Thomas, linebacker for the Patriots, sacked the thrower in the third quarter, with 9 minutes, 24 seconds left on the clock. He was replaced by Damon Huard, who finished up the game to a loss against the Patriots, 17-10.

Baseball 9/8/08

Seattle Mariners are without their starting pitcher Carlos Silva due to injury. The player was scheduled to play against the New York Yankees, but had to be removed from the list and was replaced by left-handed Ryan Feierabend for the game. Silva was reported as saying that he was experiencing a sharp pain in his upper back. He comes to the Mariners are a new transfer this season, after signing a 4-year deal for $48 million. His stats currently read as 4-14 with a 6.53 ERA. At this time of writing, he is expected to play in Wednesday’s game against Texas.
Meanwhile, another pitcher is out due to injury; this one for the remainder of the season. Chad Reineke will not play for the Padres for the rest of the year because of his shoulder. According to the Padres’ manager, Bud Black, the pitcher is experiencing a “stress reaction on top of his shoulder blade.” The right hander had four games under his belt, counting three starts where he earned 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA for San Diego. July 22 marked the day he signed his transfer with the Mariners from Houston. Houston, for the trade, received Randy Wolf. Reineke spent almost a month with Triple A Portland before being called up to the Big Leagues August 16th.
