Football4Profit: News
As the Dodgers come close to racing for the playoffs, they’ve made a deal
with the Cleveland Indians they’re hoping will help secure a title. Los
Angeles Dodgers traded minor league players Jonathan Meloan, right-hander,
and catcher Carlos Santana for Casey Blake and an additional fee. Blake is
currently batting .289, and has under his belt 11 home runs and 58 RBI’s;
he’s been Cleveland’s most clutch player, with his average jumping up to
.398 when runners are in scoring position. Through the end of May, his
average dropped to .234, but has raised back up to a solid .352 in 45 games
since that time, with 29 RBI’s.
And the weather just keeps up. According to William Hill’s bookies, they
expect Summer is pretty much done for the year. Though they predict that
this week’s great weather will be the top rated for the season, but they
also expect Fall to come into play any time. Even money says that the end of
the weekend will also mark the hottest temperatures to have passed for 2008.
There’s also a bet 12/1 odds that temperatures will reach 100F this year, in
Britain. A spokesperson for Hills, Kate Miller commented on the wager with
the following: “As sad as it is to say, it does appear that this is all
we’re going to get in terms of good weather, and the remainder of the summer
we'll see Brits with brollies instead of suntans!”
The time trial for the Tour de France resulted in Stefan Schumacher’s odds
changing to a high 24/1 for the stage win. Fabian Cancellera, however,
confirmed his rights to being the favourite when he earned the fastest time
of the trials and was back into as little as 1/3 on the exchange. Some
punter may have been thrown for a loop, though, when Schumacher matched
Cancellera’s time at the first check point, only to drop back down 12 more
seconds at the 36 km marker. Overall, his final time was 14 seconds ahead,
thanks to the last 17 km. Carlos Sastre jostled up the game as well, with an
amazing ride. He’d been on offer at 2/1 odds for the Win, before the
semi-finals, but did not lose in the expected amount of time to Cadel Evans.
Evans has been at a low of about 2/5 on Betfair, contrary to Sastre’s odds
as high as 28/1 over the recent weeks.
Dale Steyn, South African strike bowler has been eliminated from the Third
Test and Stan James has cut England from 10/3 to 11/4 for the upcoming
tournament at Edgbaston. South Africa has been consistently in the lead for
the 4-match series, and are up 1-0. Their odds have down from 110/10 to
11/8, while the odds for a draw have changed from 6/4 to 11/8.
Since the jump in popularity for Ricky Hatton, there has been a surge of
bets in the world of welterweight boxing, but it seems that people are
following the boxer as an individual, rather than paying more attention to
the division as a whole. According to one bookmaker, this isn’t unusual at
all- in that typically speaking, gambling on boxing does tend to follow
fighters rather than whole divisions. Contrarily, Coral- who call themselves
Europe’s leading gaming operator- have confirmed the theory by stating that
the Manchester boxer Ricky Hatton has brought a significant amount of money
into the welterweight class, but that the “mass money” follows the fighter
only. The public relations director at Coral, Simon Clare, has said that
boxing is a very specialized area for sports bettors. His commentary came as
part of the PR for the WBA Welterweight Championship fight between Antonio
Margarito and Miguel Cotto. The contest will take place in Las Vegas,
Nevada, America at the MGM Grand’s Garden Arena.
