Football4Profit: News

American Football:  5 Sept 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars are suffering the hopefully temporary loss of offensive tackle Richard Collier. Tragedy hit this team as he was shot early this week outside of an apartment building. Scarce details have been released to the press, so little is known save that the bullet entered his main body cavity – leaving the lineman fighting for his life. Follow surgery, updates were given reporting him as in critical but stable condition. Since, his medical team have shut down communication with the press stating “Right now, he's battling for his life," said Jaguars coach Del Rio. "All we can do right now is pray for healing. We have no control over that situation other than saying some prayers."
The Indianapolis Colts’ Tony Dungy made the statement during a recent press release that Peyton Manning was still expected to participate in the team’s season opener against Chicago. Though he has been unable to participate as normal, he was able to join practice as of last Tuesday and added to his regimen on Wednesday. Thursdays pre-season finale against Cincinnati gave Manning the opportunity to go through his regular routine, though he sat out the game in uniform. Regarding his discussion on the matter, Tony Dungy made the following statement, “"I'm sure he would rather have gone through training camp and gotten his normal reps. But we have done it before with Bob Sanders, so I do not worry about it with a veteran guy. If he was a second year guy, you might."

Baseball Injuries:  5 Sept 2008

Chicago White Sox are without a couple of their biggest names this week – as left hander Mark Buehrle was flown back to Chicago due to his wife contracting an illness. Ken Griffey Jr. will not be active this week due to tightness in his lower back. Finally, Carlos Quentin – the leader in the American League for home runs – has a sore left forearm. Both Griffey Jr. and Quentin missed out on Tuesday’s game against Cleveland. Both outfielders are listed as day to day on the injured list.
In the meantime, Omar Infante stepped in to replace Chipper Jones for the Atlanta Braves’ game against the Florida Marlins. The third baseman was sat out due to a mild injury to his right knee. It is not yet apparent as to how Jones will be out of play. He has been hitting .358 with 20 home runs under his belt, as well as 67 RBI’s.
