Football4Profit: News- Surrey vs Hampshire

In terms of Surrey up against Hampshire at the Oval, well, it should also be close, but we don’t necessarily agree with the bookies. Despite the even match up between the two, some of the firms have Surrey listed as the clear favourites to win, which seems a bit presumptuous if you look at their position objectively. Now, previous games had Surrey out on top, but that was for a game against Lancashire- and even then they didn’t come through; outside of points, Surrey haven’t won a game this year! Improvement is one thing, and certainly there’s credit to be given to the club, but it’s dimished compared to the progress that Hampshire has been making in their stead. Whereas Surrey struggle to win at all, Hampshire is coming off of victories in five straight matches. Their meeting with Yorkshire resulted in them lording over Yorkshire by 10 wickets. If they were to win, and move on to meet Durham- they’d find themselves in a game they’ve played before- and distinctly won out over. Hampshire are dominant in the Division One of the Pro 40, and with the competition complete, the team’s concentration is solely on the four day tourney.

Really, the only thing that Surrey has that might be considered an advantage, would be to put their luck and hope all on the shoulders of paceman Shoaib Akhtar but it seems a heavy weight for one man to carry, no matter what the bookies are saying. He’s not having an easy time of it either with his travel plans being interrupted by paperwork trouble- bouncing back and forth between Pakistan and Heathrow for the correct type of work permit. Maybe, maybe it’s Mark Ramprakash that’s motivating bookmakers to keep them as favourites, but it seems that 4/6 is ridiculously optimistic. Hampshire, are 11/10 with Totesport, and if they can stay away from the relegation zone by earning the necessary points, it could be a worthwhile back.
